Client Spotlight: Every Arkansan

Intentional marketing and fundraising work to sustain both their causes

Engagement at a Glance

Every Arkansan is a Little Rock-area nonprofit committed to helping kids and families chase their God-given dreams.

A few of the outcomes from our engagement:

  • Created clear messaging and content to overhaul their outdated website
  • Deployed multiple year-end campaigns to maximize their matching gift opportunities
  • Defined clear giving tiers and specific engagement game plans for their donor portfolio
  • Facilitated both virtual and in-person storytelling workshops for their team

The Challenge

In the early days, The Arkansan Dream Center (now Every Arkansan) was led by an ambitious founder who went door to door simply offering to help low-income families in his community. Those initial outreaches continued to grow in size and influence—eventually becoming full programs and an entire nonprofit organization committed to helping every Arkansan chase their God-given dream.

But with growth and scale comes complexity. The community had always known the team simply as “the dream center” and the donors and volunteers involved often only saw the tip of the iceberg when it came to programming and impact. Meanwhile, this organization had grown to impressive heights, leveraging a primarily founder-led fundraising model.

It was time to solidify their identity in the community, equip their team to also become transformational storytellers, and support this impressive team with key marketing and fundraising initiatives to help them continue living into their mission.

The Solution

Our ongoing engagement with Every Arkansan hit the ground running thanks to existing relationships. With a mutual appreciation for the StoryBrand framework, we started our work by clarifying their message—because EA recognized a significant problem.

Most organizations that do good work and strive for clear messaging end up saying catchphrases like “make a difference” or “leave a legacy.” The problem here is that it’s not unique. Almost every charity is using these words on a regular basis.

So, we set out to create messaging that was not only clear, but also compelling and relevant. In short, we unearthed a key insight that their audience really resonated with the idea of “paying it forward.” In many cases, their audiences of donors, supporters, etc. had experienced their own form of hardship in life and were uniquely motivated to help someone else in their community overcome that same challenge.

With a clear message in place, we moved on to help them rebrand fully as Every Arkansan, reimagine their website, create consistent email campaigns, deploy end-of-year appeals, build a strategic fundraising plan, and ultimately deploy their message to the audience who also cared about their cause.

We even facilitated ongoing virtual and in-person training to equip their team to become transformational storytellers.

(We would be remiss to talk about this work without mentioning our partner Alex Schauer over at Schauer Branding Co. who has had an equal hand in everything we’re doing for Every Arkansan. Thank you, Alex!)

The Results

Unlike some organizations that have yet to do any real marketing or fundraising, Every Arkansan came to us ready to assess and relaunch what they were doing for a new season of ministry and outreach.

Here are a few of the highlight wins:

  • Created clear messaging and content to relaunch their brand and overhaul an outdated website
  • Deployed multiple year-end campaigns to maximize their matching gift opportunities
  • Assessed their giving data to build refined giving tiers and specific engagement game plans for their donor portfolio
  • Facilitated both virtual and in-person storytelling workshops for their team

Quick Marketing Tip

If you’re struggling to set the right fundraising goals for your organization, prioritize a mix of relational and revenue-focused goals.

Here’s an example: “We will prioritize xx intentional communication touchpoints with each of our donor tiers (relational) and raise $XX by ______”. (revenue)
